Music and the Brain

Music triggers a variety of reactions of our brain. The one can learn or work better with music, the other feels disturbed. Why is that? What happens to a stroke with musical memory? Do affected patients also have to relearn the well-known children's songs? Where is the musical memory? These and other questions are explored in the research field Music and Brain.

Acquired Musical Anhedonia

This project is dealing with the question to what extent a stroke changes the emotional response to music and whether differences in sensitivity to different musical emotions can be detected in patients.

Brain Changes in Neuro-psychiatric Musicianship

The focus of the neuro-psychiatric disorders of musicians are movement disorders such as focal dystonia and anxiety disorders. Researchers are studying what changes in the brain can be found in these diseases, and what options for treatment can be derived from them.
